Drought, displacement and inadequate infrastructure leave many communities without reliable access to safe water and sanitation, increasing the risk of disease and placing additional pressure on vulnerable families.
ARD works with communities, local authorities and partners to provide emergency water assistance, improve access to safe water and promote better sanitation and hygiene practices.
Our programme prioritises internally displaced families, drought-affected communities, women, children and other vulnerable households with limited access to essential WASH services.
In March 2026, ARD delivered emergency water assistance to drought-affected internally displaced communities in Baidoa, Huddur and Wanleweyn districts. Water trucking provided vulnerable families with access to safe water during a period of acute water shortage.
